What the fuck am I doing?
I should be doing Pennsic Prep, making things, projects, packing, pulling stuff together. Instead I just pissed an entire night away doing nothing....WTF is wrong with me?...(sigh)

E-mailed a thank you to all the security staff from the con.
Made out the last 2 money orders for the sleep lab folks. That bill is now paid in full.
Looked up how to make rope tighteners on line.
Looked up LJ communities dedicated to fixing coffee machines... (there aren't any)
Did alot of thinking, fretting, worrying, "what if" ing, plotting, planning.

    But didn't actually DO anything!!!!!

    I hate humid summer weather.....
It makes me so fucking lethargic......all I want to do is sleep.....I can barely keep my eyes open, but I have things I want to accomplish....

I'm worried for 2 friends. 1 made a cryptic LJ post and hasn't furnished any further details, the other is in the hospital. I wish them both the best possible outcome.

    Ok. Dex-Con...

The ride out was not bad. 90 minutes total, and good company. However, my unairconditioned old Buick made it brutal every time we had to slow down of hit traffic. I was a bit of a bitch to people when I first arrived, but settled in and got my game on pretty quick......Hmm.... no.. this wont do... too wordy. Dex-Com was a Dex-Con. If you've been/done one, you'll understand,. If you haven't you wont.

Low Lights: I spent far too much money on Gas, Tolls, and food, and it had to come out of my Pennsic funds, because it was all I had./ Understaffed, my crew worked far too many hours/ Far too much sugary junk food./ Too damned close to Pennsic now. / the Water fest idiots./ realizing that my hotel room was superior to the place I live in every way./ Not being able to get out for the first day and a half. / Nearly being sick from the heat and humidity on the ride back.

Highlights: New security Motto- "Security, protecting people like you from people like us" / Seeing Jaakal again after umpteen years./ Working with my magnificent security staff, both the old vets, and the new chums. / Riding there and back with Weasel./ Seeing all the Dex-Con crew I only get to see twice a year./ the crop of young'uns who all seem to want to volunteer for Security next go around./ Watching the war gaming in the arena./ My own hotel room./ Stopping at All American on the ride back.

About that EMO post on Thursday?.....don't sweat it friends, it was just work being insane......

Today wasn't too bad. The overcast and rain kept the temps manageable, and even though I had 14 stops,30 waters, and had to once again help load trucks, I was doing OK. I got a full nights sleep last night, and that helped.

    Fucking Mosquitos.....
Very hot, long, tiring day. Only got 5 hours sleep, and it was bad because of how hot and sticky my room was. (Lucky me, I'm the only one in the house without an AC) Work today was rough. 39 waters all over Eastern Suffolk. 18 to one place that had running printing presses going. Several flights of stairs. And then (I had to help load trucks when I got back. You know, in our steel roofed, unairconditioned warehouse?....There are days where, no joke... i think they are actually trying to make me die. It makes sense in a cold blooded sort of way from their perspective I suppose.....I can't wait for Izzy the water truck driver to get back from Florida.....

Swung by FP for a while.... (hence the title).........good turn out. We have some ramped up, highly wired, blood thirsty fighters raring to tear a hole in the Mid realm. Off in the distance, I hear the brazen throat of trumpets, the clash of arms, and the scent of blood is on the western wind....nearly time oh my sword brothers and sisters, nearly time.......

    Joy....
And on top of it all, I just accidentally cleared the entire previous message I was writing and had to start again......

    Short form.

Huseiyn is in the hospital. Not sure what's wrong with him. ( kidney stones, gall stones, hot appendix?) Mark and I had to go rescue him and bring him to the ER.

I am now the ONLY mechanic!

This was supposed to be HIS weekend to cover coming up.

    I am THE ONLY MECHANIC!!

I am now on call 24/7 until further notice, because...

I AM THE ONLY FUCKING MECHANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know how this is going to affect Dex-Con yet......(fuck them up the ass sideways with steel wool if they think I'm postponing my vacation in 14 days for THEIR emergency)

    ........................BUT WAIT.............THERE'S MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....................................................................................................

Prohibition has become even too divey a dive for me and suspended their wings night special. No more Wednesday night wings for me........

I have managed to destroy my last remaining pair of black jeans, and I'm too broke to replace them........

And I can guaran-damn-tee that no matter what Herculean efforts I make, nor how hard I work in this emergency, It won't matter a God damned bit in the end. There will be no notice of it nor appreciation of it........

    Yin Post.
I was so close to the Goodyear Blimp today I could almost touch it!!!! I noticed when I was over at Food and Fun on Wellwood in N. Babylon that the GYB was tethered over at Republic. So, I decided to head south by skirting St. Charles cemetery... (Hi Ma and Grand Ma and Grand Pa Racanno!!!).....and head down new Highway. As I made that really sharp curve just north of the SS PKWY, I had to stop. Dear Jah All Mighty, the blimp was nearly outside the fence!!! I had to stop, pull over at the parking lot of that head stones and monuments place on the curve, and just........Gaze? Marvel? Ogle?.......It was awesome. I was almost close enough to touch the bottom of the lower vertical stabilizer!!! I took pictures with my phone!!! I will post them..... ummm... if somebody can show me how. There is so much more detail at that range. Rigging, ports, wires, cables, rings, valves, and wrinkles! I desperately wanted to huck a rock at it just to see if it would go "BLIMP" when it bounced off. And the scale of the thing. It's a lot damned bigger than you think!!!!!!
I spent almost the entirety of my lunch break time just.... soaking it up. Listening to the engines whine, watching the wind make it pivot around the mast, almost praying the pilots would see me and need extra ballast.......

I will ride in a blimp someday before I die......And If not, I want a portion of my ashes scattered over the Great South Bay via dirigible......That is not a joke folks.

And speaking of beautiful black women......(which I am now)..... I was at "In and Out" deli......(for real) in Roosevelt today with a delivery. As I headed up the side street next to it to park, I noticed a small group of folks. Two AWESOMELY hot black women....One in skin tight black spandex with a bright red halter top, and black patent leather, stiletto heeled, knee high boots. The other in a gold "little black dress" that just by dint of gravity managed to cover the curve of her ass cheeks, and gold "fuck me" pumps. As they walked, the were being escorted by a very solid, cut, muscular young brother with short dreads, all in black on a mountain bike. The two "ladies" were in turn, escorting a small herd of kids!!!! 7-8, all in probably ranging in age from about 4 to about 9. All in school uniforms. It was.....discordant. I made my delivery, and as I came out they passed by me across the street. On of the little girls pointed to me and said... "Look Santa Claus!!!!"...I lost it....It was adorable....the ladies smiled, and the dude said.. "Wave Hi to Santa kids!!".. they all did. I smiled and made the universal, "I'm watching you gesture" which made the kids squeal and the adults bust out laughing.....I swear to you, It took every single fiber of my highly limited self control to not say HO HO HO to those ladies.......(grin)... as I pulled out, they began herding the kids onto a school bus at the corner....

Only 8 more work days of this......

Less water, more freight. Only 27 bottles today, a "mere" 1080 pounds. Suffolk and Nassau. 11 stops. One was murder. ABC parts warehouse in Mineola. 12 bottles. Due to lay to, it required me to carry the bottles by hand 2 at a time, up 2 steps, down a hall, through a self closing door, across an office, through another door, up 4 steps, down 2 steps, up 2 steps and around a corner, and then back with 4 empties. 6 times. The other water stop, in Hicksville, was a bitch as it was almost all outside in the sun. I could literally feel myself broiling. One stupid mother fucker actually had the balls to say "Nice day huh?" to me.... I was bright red from exertion, dripping sweat, and my shirt was so sweat stained it looked like someone had overturned a bucket of water on me.....No fuck wad. It's NOT a NICE FUCKING DAY!!!! Overcast, windy, and 60 degrees with like 20% humidity would be a nice day when I'm doing this kind of shit!!!! Remind me again why I can't kill idiots at will with my mind?

8 more days. All joking aside, the weather for Thursday and Friday has me concerned. Both the temperature and humidity are supposed to be spiking. I really, really don't want to be found dead in my fucking work truck!!!!!

Tomorrow is "catch up" day. No water or freight, just the 6 or 7 MAJOR FUCKING SERVICE AND REPAIR CALLS we have been ignoring. All of which I have to try and do in about 1/3rd the normal time. No stress there or anything........

Gods, I wish hadn't just looked in the mirror. What a disgusting tub of guts I am. I look like a hefty bag full of Crisco sitting here....(sigh)

    Happy Bastille day all......
I Hurt.... I hurt in a lot of places.....53 waters today. That's 2120 pounds of water.....A bit over a ton. I was marinating in my own sweat at first, but nature was kind and the humidity dropped. 9 more work days of this.... I can do it. Really.

I Put the Buick into the shop today. Mechanic may not get to it until Thursday. Weather or not it's ready for my Friday night drive out to Jersey for Dex-Con is gonna be a tense and close run thing.

A couple of bright notes. Ismael (smiley) is back from Turkey. (His dad is doing pretty well for a dieing guy according to him) That means there will be just a hair less stress this week than was thought, and I might just POSSIBLY be able to leave work early Friday and head out to Dex-Con. My ex-boss Bob visited the shop today, and may have a 4 day pet sitting gig for me a few day before Pennsic. He has agreed to pay up front, so I might have a few extra dollars in my pocket for war.

Did I mention that I hurt in a lot of places?......taking Tylenol and going to sleep.....

    Stuff.....
Commons went well. It was a good one. (Oddly Roman heavy) We got alot accomplished for little to no drama. That's a win in my book. Paladins pool was wonderful!!! I am such a marine mammal......(grin)......no new probies, no new members voted in, Pennsic business done, plentiful food, reasonable drink, a few faces we don't always see. Boffer fighting in the street, we seemed to have spawned an entire Pirate...ummm.. I mean PRIVATEER fleet, good turn out, Paladin as usual was a gracious host. For myself, I was pleased with the VERY odd but vastly interesting gifts folks sent to me.....although I'm not sure quite what I'm going to do with some of them!!!....(grin)....thanks one and all. It was good to sit and just relax and chat with the family. I had a very long talk about local SCA politics with [info]draxius that was enlightening. I think it sez a lot about this commons that I was the first to arrive and the last to leave!!!!

I only have 2 quibbles. First, my damned car gave me problems. It died when I arrived, and it died again when I got home!!!... from the nature of the problem, I think I have an electrical short. I am going to try and wrangle a way to get it into the shop Monday or Tuesday, as I need it to get my ass to Dex-Con Friday!!!!...(I need this 3 weeks before Pennsic!!!)

Secondly.... DAMMIT GUYS, WEAR GARB!!!!!!!!!... less than a 3rd of us bothered. That seriously irks me. It's not hard to do. Throw a tabard over your mundies, wear a kilt, a tee tunic, a bog dress, a dashiki, a sarong, body paint and tastefully applied bits of fur, just make SOME sort of effort!!!! Even dressing in the colors, or wearing a H3S tm Branded Tee- shirt shows some consideration and thought!!!! And a hearty thank you and well done to those folks who did!!!... (Even if their pants, they hurt us... hurts and offended our EYES!!!!)

So, I've been looking at the finances. Before Pennsic, I just need to have my car Insurance money and my money for bills. I think I can manage. I can cheat on rent a little by paying double out of half as many checks, though it will mean some DAMNED LEAN weeks. As long as nothing disastrous happens (knock wood) I should be ok... (not well off mind, but ok) Thanks to a good friend purchasing something of mine, my big medical debt is now clear. I'll be sending the last chunk of the money in this week.. YAAY!!!! 1 down, only 4 more to go.....(fortunately, the last 4 are less combined that the first was by itself!!!)....

After Pennsic...stuff......Serious pursuit of the bariatric surgery, serious pursuit of dental work, and there is a VERY interesting development on the new abode front that I am following closely......

    Oh Deer...
2 to be precise. Big, glossy, at least 12 pointers. probably 3 feet at the shoulder. Not an odd occurrence on Long island. The where is what was so odd. These 2 big bucks were contentedly nibbling the vegetation this morning about 9AM on the west bound side of the L.I.E. right next to the exit for the Sunken meadow parkway!!! That is the farthest northwest I have ever seen Deer on L.I.!!!!!!

BLIMMMMMMMMMMP!!!!!!!!!.......I saw the Goodyear blimp a number of times today in the distance. I love Blimps, and dirigible airships in general. But the coolest thing was that when I was headed south on Mineola Blvd. It flew directly over me going north bound. And not very high up either!!! no more than a few hundred feet at most!!! I have never been DIRECTLY below it before. I could see all the mooring points and the details of the gondola and ducted props. I must have looked like a maniac to the drivers in the vehicles around me as we waited for the old country road light to change, as I was leaning out the window grinning like the Cheshire cat, gesticulating upward like a mad man and yelling "BLIMMMMMMMMMMP"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at the top of my lungs. People looked up......

Didn't go walkies today. I was just too beat. The weather was better today, but I still felt nauseous and lethargic. I hate this humidity. I hope to almighty Jah that Pennsic isn't like this, or I'm not gonna be good for shit.....

Starting Monday, the next 2 weeks are going to be rough. I won't be at FP, I won't be going walkies, I won't be doing much of anything on the weeknights, except recuperating and turning in early. Huseiyn and I were discussing it. Each of us will probably be averaging something on the order of 1600 pounds of 5 gallon water bottles delivered every day. Thats just a hair more than 3/4ths of a ton. We have to divide Izzy's route, which averages 80 bottles a day between us. We can't overload the vans, 40 Bottles is about max. It will fluctuate. Some days Izzy has over 120 bottles to deliver. Some days only 40. And Don and Marshal, the other two route drivers will take a few each. No matter how you slice it, it's going to be more physical, manual labor than I've done in years. Oh, did I mention we will still have to do regular freight deliveries, emergency repairs, and a couple of installations and equipment pulls as well?....great, just great......

My new tent arrived. I just hope I survive the next 2 weeks so I can use it!!!

Stupid aside apropos of nothing, there is a nice old early 80's vintage, black Kawasaki KZ 1000 for sale up around the corner. This is EXACTLY the style of scoot I want. It's in minty condition, and they only want $2500 for it.......(sigh....COVET!!!!)
